Superfoods to the rescue

Interiors for Seniors is committed to assisting the retirement community whether it is a downsize, relocation or organizational needs. It is also our commitment to share innovative ideas and suggestions to enhance our clients lives. We all know that eating healthy is one of the best ways to increase our ability to live longer. There are certain foods that do a better job of this than others. These are known as "Superfoods". Here are some of the most potent and nutrient packed foods...nuts, blueberries, olive oil, turmeric, chocolate and salmon.

Nuts - Choose the nut you like best. Almonds are among one of the most nutritious. Nuts provide an excellent source of Vitamin E, which is usually quickly depleted as we age. Nuts help protect your heart, help manage type 2 diabetes, help ease your achy joints, help prevent prostate cancer and increase bone health.

Blueberries are high in Vitamins C & K as well as the mineral manganese. They also are shown in studies to lower blood pressure naturally. Blueberries have also been shown to slow the decline of memory. One of the most efficient ways to consume blueberries is through blueberry juice found easily in the grocery store.

Olive oil is one of the "good fats". It lowers cholesterol while increasing the healthy HDL level. It has also been shown to lower the risk of memory loss. It protects against cognitive decline. Try it in place of butter or other oils. " A recent medical study that included over 841,000 subjects found that olive oil was the only source of monounsaturated fat associated with a reduced risk of stroke and heart disease "

Turmeric is considered to be a wonderful anti-inflammatory. It also helps improve memory and stave off loss of cognition. This super spice is also beneficial for those who have Chrohn's disease, Ulcerative Colitis and arthritis. Turmeric is best absorbed when taken with some kind of fat like an avocado or some milk.

Chocolate is a favorite of every-ones and what a bonus that it is good for us as we age. The best kind for your heath is dark chocolate. It has been shown through clinical tests that consumption of dark chocolate can help Alzheimer patients. It is also wonderful for lowering cholesterol.

Salmon has a high amount of Vitamin D and is an excellent source of protein. Eating salmon can also improve mental health . The omega-3 fatty acids can help reduce inflammation in your eyes. It also helps halt the degeneration of neurons in dementia sufferers.

By adding these "Superfoods" one can improve the overall quality of their health. Making sound choices about what one eats highly impacts the way different afflictions affect the body. Try incorporating just one or two of these Superfoods, then gradually add more in. I bet you'll see a difference!
