On Saturday, August 10, 2019, Interiors for Seniors (IFS) was proud to be a part of the Oakmonte Village of Lake Mary’s 7th Annual 5K Fun Run Walk.
According to Oakmonte’s advertisement for the event, “This 5K run/walk is to help bring awareness and provide support to Alzheimer’s Association. More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease and every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer’s Association works on a global, national and local level to enhance care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias”
Interiors for Seniors, one of many other sponsors, set up a table on the spacious patio in front of Oakmonte Village of Lake Mary. We provided granola bars and NutriGrain bars, as refreshment for all, set alongside brochures and business cards for our company. Other sponsors provided fresh fruit, smoothies, bagels and, of course, water. The weather was beautiful and it was a relief to have the weather on our side that morning (with all the rain we have been having here in Central Florida this season).
Interiors for Seniors decorated their table with a beautiful tapestry and two gorgeous dish gardens, one of which Missy Donaghy donated to the raffle.
I found that everyone who attended was upbeat, friendly and most of all determined. This is a cause that is close to our hearts and we at Interiors for Seniors are grateful to have been a part of it.
It was also heartwarming to see everyone putting in that extra mile. One woman in particular was pushed throughout the race, but when she got close to the finish line, she stood up and walked through the line. This sort of gesture warmed my heart and was prevalent throughout the morning. Even the babies and the children who attended were in good spirits, their little faces smiling at the friendly crowd. All in all, it was a moving experience and I came away feeling rewarded and more aware of the importance to end Alzheimer’s.
Though this event was held at a retirement community, it was nice to see all the young people who turned out to participate and to support this cause. It shows that this sort of activity is successful in raising awareness in for all age levels in the community.
The first 400 people to register received a free event t-shirt. They were a lovely deep blue with white logo. Each finisher of the race also received a medal.
Shout out to all of the Interiors for Seniors people who attended and participated: Missy, Kevin, Carol, Mari, Ben, Krista, Wyatt, Shelly, Eve, Sean, Charles and Dorinda. Thank you one and all. We couldn’t have done it without you.
