Moving can certainly be overwhelming. In order to assist you in not making any mistakes, I thought I would discuss some of the top missteps made by those in the throes of relocating.
Putting it off
. . . all these words mean the same thing.
This is a number one mistake when it comes to moving. Procrastination does not rear its ugly head. Rather, it hides, not willing to see the inevitable coming. Previously we discussed the importance of scheduling your move in a timely manner in the blog “When Should You Schedule Your Move.” This is first thing not to put off.
Here are a few topics of procrastination people use when moving:
Scheduling the move date – As stated, moving is a process. This means you need to have everything on schedule. There are closing dates on property when you must be out (usually another person is there to occupy that space immediately). Knowing that we don’t living in an isolated bubble, we should understand that we need to be in place for that move date. Schedule a move in a timely fashion.
Finding boxes - Most people believe they will have no problem finding boxes for a move. They are under the misconception that their local grocery store will have some. Hey, you will be lucky to even find one box at Publix or Walmart (or wherever) much less enough to move your entire house.
Scheduling a moving truck - Contrary to popular thought, calling on your friends who have a pickup truck is not a good idea. Usually they have had their share of being approached to assist in moving anything that doesn’t fit into a sedan vehicle. After exhausting this avenue, then you find you still need to schedule a moving truck. Again, this needs to be done in a timely fashion and on a date that lines up with the packers and the move out and move in dates in your relocation.
The opposite of Procrastination is Anticipation. Anticipation means you attempt to assess the situation and deal with it beforehand. It is also coupled with the concept of “time management.” Why not choose to manage your time wisely when it comes to a move.
