It’s easy to let the stress of moving get to you. Some research has suggested that moving is more stressful than a divorce. So, how can you relieve stress while moving? There are many suggested methods anywhere from adjusting your attitude towards it to planning out a manageable timeline so that you don’t have all of the tasks of moving snowballing on you on the day of the move itself. But one way I have found that can get your emotional and physical energy aligned correctly is to practice chair yoga.
There are many instructive sites that give instruction for chair yoga as a means to destress while in an office setting. The fact is, chair yoga can be specific and “can improve your flexibility, concentration and strength, while boosting your mood, and reducing stress and joint strain.” [https://www.allinahealth.org/healthysetgo/move/five-benefits-of-chair-yoga-and-six-poses-to-get-started]
DailyCare, a website dedicated to the support of caregivers of seniors citizens, reports the following:
“Yoga is an excellent way for older adults to loosen and stretch painful muscles, reduce stress and improve circulation. It also reduces anxiety, helps lower blood pressure and protects joints and builds strength and balance.” https://dailycaring.com/chair-yoga-for-seniors-reduce-pain-and-improve-health-video
Additionally, the Chopra Center https://chopra.com/articles/the-power-of-chair-yoga-plus-exercises states chair yoga “will help you cultivate strength, flexibility, and body-centered restful awareness.” They even suggest that chair yoga can be done from a wheelchair, which can be good news for seniors confined to one.
You will need to do a few stretches to assist your body to get back on an anxiety-free track. First you need to get your blood flowing. Remember that you need to do a few warm ups prior branching out to other exercises.
PREPARING FOR CHAIR YOGA
Mediation is a huge part of any type of yoga. Therefore, it is important that you quite your mind as part of the preparation. You only need to have a straight chair (placed on a non-slick surface) and a quite spot for this. If you are moving your location, you are most likely wearing loose fitting clothing, which is also ideal for chair yoga. You may even consider putting on some quite meditative background music. You phone can be perfect for this. Here is a link to some nice yoga, Zen-type music [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwReMabJwcY]
SALUTATIONS (AKA WARM UP EXERCISE) AS BLOOD FLOWING EXERCISE
I have read that chair yoga warm up exercise, if practiced for about 30 minutes can increase you blood flow by 75%. It is important that your breathing is synchronized with your movement. There are several suggested exercises for chair yoga warm ups. We will focus on three: pelvic tilt, seated cat/cow and dancing cat. The links will give you the instructions needed to perform these exercises.

In parting, here is a nice mantra (quote) you can use during your exercise, if you choose, by American yoga master, Tao Porchon-Lynch:
BREATH IS THE POWER BEHIND ALL THINGS… I BREATH IN AND KNOW THAT GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN
